Mechanical Engineering

The Department of “Mechanical Engineering” at Gandhi Institute For Technology (GIFT) was established in the year 2009 with the approval of AICTE and is affiliated with Biju Patnaik University and Technology (BPUT), Odisha. The Department deals with the theory, design, development and application of Mechanical Engineering and related technologies. Within a short period, the Department has carved a niche for itself and demonstrated its credentials in the overall development of its students, be it academics, research projects, robotics, research paper presentation and publication in peer-reviewed journals and conferences. The Department boasts of a well-balanced industry experience and well-qualified faculties.

The Department is well-equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories and one dedicated workshop, which provides an exceptional platform for teaching, learning and developing students’ skills. In research, Department has comprehended a wide range of areas, such as heat transfer, waste heat recovery, nanofluid, robotics, and composite material, under the guidance of eminent personalities from the related field. Some of our faculties are pursuing nanofluid research and crude oil formation from waste plastic. The Department conducts seminars, symposiums and conferences regularly to cope with the emerging trends in recent developments in Mechanical Engineering. The Department of Mechanical Engineering has active members in student and faculty chapters like; The Institute of Engineers (India), Society of Automotive Engineering (SAE), Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) and Solar Energy Society of India (SESI).

The process of learning is critical in life. What you learn, how you know and where you know to play a crucial role in developing one’s intellectual capability besides career. Hence on behalf of the Department, I welcome you to GIFT, Bhubaneswar. The Department of Mechanical Engineering started its journey in the year 2009. The Department offers B.Tech (Mechanical Engineering) with an intake of 120 students. The Department has highly experienced and dedicated faculty to impart quality education to the students. In addition to academics, the Department strives for the holistic development of students by arranging various activities like workshops, seminars, conferences and industrial visits. The Department has well-equipped laboratories, and we believe our students are moulded to become successful engineers committed to the industry and society.

GIFT also augments academic knowledge by training its technocrats to face the challenges in life by providing many value-added courses to enhance their career prospects. We provide excellent infrastructure best teaching faculty to ensure quality education. Thus we are confident that our students will emerge as assets to this institution and the country at large.

In this era of startups, we also encourage our students to become entrepreneurs, which is part of our Program’s Educational Objectives. Many projects are going on in Renewable energy, like solar energy-based water heaters, Wind power generation on Highways by fast-moving vehicles, and waste management to expose our students to the latest technologies.
